AIMS Ltd offers a unique range of nickel based alloys targeted
at high wear and corrosion resistance. These materials are marketed
under the name Sagittite® and were originally targeted at the
market of food, pharmaceutical and industrial extruders for the
lining of twin and single extruder barrels. Over the last eight
years however, the market for these materials has grown to include
petrochemical and other broader industrial applications.
The Sagittite® range of materials is derived from a high grade
nickel based alloy containing a varying percentage of cermet/carbide
and/or intermetallic particulates. These materials are produced
by the powder metallurgy route utilising the HIPing (Hot Isostatic
Pressing) process.
Sagittite® is provided as a diffusion bonded layer functionally
structured and/or zoned to tailor the optimum properties to the
operating environment. In addition, Sagittite¨ is also used in a
monolithic form with whole components manufactured from the material
and not diffusion bonded to a substrate.
A number of grades of Sagittite® are available which have been
developed for specific applications.
The overall performance of these materials when used in the construction
of extruder barrels, in particular food and pharmaceutical extrusion
applications, is outstanding and is a bench mark material in that
field.
These materials are well suited to "Net" and "Near-Net-Shape"
manufacture and components of over 600Kg have been produced in
this way.
