Overview
The advantages offered by powder metallurgy, which include fine grain structures and ability to manufacture complex alloys with tailored properties, enables materials to be designed for specific applications. These benefits are evident for example in the manufacture of high strength deep nitriding steel.

In addition to the functionally structured approach AIMS Ltd has a great deal of experience in the field of "near-net" and "net-shape" manufacture.

Aluminium - See specific page
Aluminium products offering high mechanical strength and fatigue resistance. The development of new aluminium based materials is ongoing with a continuous striving to increase the operating temperature of these materials.

Aluminium MMCs are also an ongoing development product. Here work is directed at providing a fully homogeneous product with fine grain size, an even distribution of particulates with fully isotropic structure.

Ferrous Alloys - See specific page
In the field of ferrous materials we are producing materials with high strength with excellent fatigue properties. Many of the materials/products in this category are product specific.

The company has undertaken considerable research on the manufacture of ferrous MMCs; in particular fibre reinforced steel products which are application specific.

Nickel - See specific page
Extensive work has been undertaken with the development of metal matrix composites (MMC). Standard ranges of nickel based MMC are available as basic material or as complex functionally structured and zoned surface layers. AIMS Ltd offers its own range of Nickel based materials called Sagittite®. These materials are specifically used to combat wear and corrosion in a wide range of applications.
